With summer just around the corner, many of you may have vacation plans you're looking forward to. Traveling is exciting, but it can disrupt your healthy habits if you don't plan - like I always say to my clients: fail to plan, plan to fail. Here’s a list of healthy travel tips to help you stay on track and enjoy your journey:
Hydration is Key
Prioritize Nutrition
Pack Vitamins and Supplements: Ensure you get essential nutrients by bringing vitamins and supplements like berberine for metabolism, NAC for detoxification, probiotics for gut health, omega-3s for inflammation, magnesium for muscle relaxation, and melatonin for sleep (always check with your doctor before taking supplements).
Healthy Snacks
Fruits and Veggies: Bananas, apples, baby carrots, snap peas, and cucumber slices (I love the idea of a banana case for my carry-on! Not to be confused with another similar shaped item you may be travelling with :).
Protein Bars: Kirkland, No Sugar Company Keto, Love Good Fats, and Buddha Bars are some of my favorite choices as they're high in fiber, low in sugar, and include healthy fats.
Nuts and Seeds: Almonds, pumpkin seeds, walnuts, and Brazil nuts are a source of fiber, healthy fats, vitamins, and minerals.
Other Options: Grain-free granola, jerky, cheese sticks, and homemade snacks like my recipe for homemade Banana Bread Protein Bites (recipe below!).
Grocery Store Essentials
Stock up on fruits & veg that don't require chopping like berries, apples, bananas, snap peas, and baby carrots. Healthy dips like hummus, nut butter, and guacamole. Greek yogurt is the perfect choice for a high-protein breakfast on the go, and I always find the local dark chocolate to enjoy.
Healthy Restaurant Choices
Opt for places like Tim Hortons, Starbucks, Chipotle, and Booster Juice. Choose egg bites, burrito salad bowls, green tea, and smoothies with healthy add-ons.
Stay Active
Walk After Meals: Or as the Italians call it: a passeggiata," the Italian tradition of taking a stroll after meals...Italians do not slip on sneakers or spandex. They simply stand up after a meal, walk outside, and take a short stroll. This healthy habit aids digestion and helps meet step goals.
Explore on Foot: Walk to nearby attractions.
Use Hotel Gyms or Local Parks: Quick workouts or yoga sessions (preload your Peloton workout before you leave just in case the the Wifi is spotty).
By planning and making conscious choices, you can maintain healthy habits while traveling this summer. Enjoy your journey and stay healthy!
